The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, where the main VA Medical Center is located. The main facility houses seven sound booths and a comprehensive balance laboratory equipped with VNG, rotary chair testing, VEMP, and vHIT. Our Audiology team includes 23 audiologists and one health technician.
In addition to the main medical center, Audiology clinics are located at six outpatient sites: Akron, Canton, Lorain, Parma, Mansfield, and Youngstown.
The fourth-year externship offers students a wide variety of clinical experiences. Training includes diagnostic hearing evaluations, hearing aid selection, hearing aid fittings with verification, hearing aid troubleshooting, electrophysiologic testing (ABR, VEMP), vestibular assessment, OAE testing and APD evaluations. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our cochlear implant program, tinnitus management program, and telehealth services.
We will be offering two fully funded externship positions for the upcoming training year. Interviews will take place in September at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
The applicant must be in an accredited AuD program and must be a US citizen. This position posting is ONLY for a 4th year externship.

The students will be interviewed and, if accepted, the university will be contacted to complete an affiliation agreement if one does not currently exist. The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is based in Cleveland Ohio where the main VA medical center is located. We have 7 soundbooths and a full balance lab including rotary chair and posturography. The Audiology staff consists of 22 audiologists and 1 health technician. In addition to the main hospital, we have audiology clinics at three outpatient clinics (Akron, Canton, and Parma) and two mobile medical units that travel to three other outpatient clinics. The fourth-year externship will provide students with a range of opportunities including hearing evaluations, hearing aid selection/fitting/troubleshooting, real-ear measurements, electrophysiologic measures (ABR, VEMP), vestibular testing (rotary chair, posturography, VNG), and OAEs. We also have a cochlear implant program, tinnitus management program, and telehealth program.
